Come What May

I just wanted to share my love and testimony of Jesus Christ. Of his amazing love and sense of what we need to guide us along our way.

About a year and a half ago I had some feeling come to me as I watched and interacted with Caden. A "thought" came to me, that all was not right with him. I know enough about child development that he was behind. At the time I was working at the gym with a girl who has 2 children with Autism. As I researched the most of the symptoms matched Cadens. I decided to wait and pray and watch. As time progressed I felt a stronger need to have Caden diagnosed. My pediatrician confirmed my feelings and asked me to go to a Child Behavioral Specialist. I did that yesterday and Caden has diagnosed with Autism. As I reflected on my feelings I felt a peace. A knowledge that the Lord had been slowly preparing me for this news. What an amazing blessing! As I think back of the small steps. My friend that was assigned to work the same shift with me. The chance to watch and gain wisdom from her children. The struggles and learning we've had with Brynlee that have prepared us for similar behaviors. I know the Lord loves us and is aware of our struggles, He aches when we hurt and does everything He can to lighten the load.

As some of you know I have struggled most of my life with self-worth. I am coming to understand that those feelings came from many instances of abuse starting at a young age. It disabled my thought process. I have a wonderful Bishop who I believe was inspired to call me in and by the spirit and have a heart to heart talk with me. This wasn't long after I had found out the my sweet Chayse had been abused. This brought up memories long ago suppressed, old scars resurfaced. He enrolled me in a LDS services group for women who have been abused. As I've attended this class I have had other memories surface. Ive learned that it is not good to brush these aside and move on because there is never peace. Much like cutting the top off a weed, it keeps coming back until the root is pulled out. This has been a painful but I feel it is an inspired program and one that will actually bring peace. This has been another powerful testimony of Christs love and awareness of me-even beyond my mask. And the testimony of a loving Bishop who is sensitive to the promptings that come to him.

I've also been blessed through making a good friend of a neighbor. She works as a office manager of several medical offices. After spending several years looking for a Doctor with the knowledge of Brynlees symptoms. Many docotrs mis-diagnosing and exacerbating the situation. Through my friend she put me in contact with a Pediactric Behavioral Specialist, she travels the U.S training doctors. After a month she diagnosed he with Asbergers sydrome, with anxiety and depression. No other doctor was able to pinpoint her diagnosis because she had several symptoms of behavioral disorders.
Going through these processes with Brynlee has prepared us mentally for Caden and hopefully built up our patience and tolerance levels.

We are by no means the best we can be, but we now have some tools and knowledgable people to help and guide us. I was reading the March Ensign today, there happened to be a article in there about a Mother who found out that her son has Autism: She says: "Enduring adversity means more than getting through it. With Autism there is no such thing as sitting tight and letting it pass or work itself out. There is no gaurantee that our son will push through to the next developmental stage or that he will grow out of his difficult behaviors. It is not enough to have trials and to get through them. We have to endure it WELL.

Also a thought from President Joseph Wirthlin:

"Come what may and love it"..."how can we love days that are filled with sorrow? We can't- at least not in the moment. I dont think my mother was suggesting we suppress discouragement or deny the reality of pain. I dont think she was suggesting that we smother unpleasant truths beneatha cloak of pretended happiness..."If we approach adversities wisely, our hardest times can be times of greatest growth, which in turn can lead toward times of greatest happiness.

I love you all, thanks for your examples of rising high in the face of adversity. Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts and work through my feelings. You are all such a strength to me.

Love to you all

Out with the "TO DO" list!!

Thats right I am throwing away my TO DO lists!! I have had hours of anxiety, passing up moments with my kids and then the dreaded let down of failure at the end of the day when I dont get all 20 things done (no joke, 20!) That isn't including all the in between mommy responsibilites like, diapers, coaching a fight, fixing owies, breaking up a fight, making a snack, givings baths, patching up after a fight. Anyway, you get the message. Of course I hafta have SOME structure, (yuck, I know) so appointments, dinner, and one household chore will make it on my "mental" to do list. Anyway, you get the message. Heres my super, ewper, duper schmooper good idea (any Mom that has seen SID the science kid, should've gotten that!!) Something new and differant (drum roll please)! The "I DID" list. K, so during the day I will jot down the things I've done on my list, and check them off of course-its all about checking the box!! And viola instant success and no guilt. Gotta love that. Jump on board people! Lets make this a happier, less drugged, more spontanious people!! Have a happy day!

WOOO HOOOO

Yes! YES! YES! You may think you are watching an "Herbal Essences" commercial but no...just me being sooo overjoyed that the air conditioning in my van is fixed. Omi Gosh, it has been broken for 5 years and every year I swear we are gonna get it fixed, but all those $$$ signs always scared me away. Well, I've had it with bad hair days...hair whipping in the wind and sweat pouring. Also borderline child abuse (does that include turning them shades of red while driving down the street??) and loosing my cool (haha) quickly because I am sweaty, hot and miserable. Enter car mechanic (dum dum de dah!!) I have done a Hyde to Jekell personality switch due to cool, quenching air in this HOT DRY UTAH Summer! SOOO happy!!

Life Comes At You Fast...

So I am realizing, with my previous blogs how FAST time goes. How is it that my kids are growing soo fast, but the actual days seem soooo long! I find myself recommiting to myself that I will savor the sweet, start blogging and taking mental pictures (as well as digital) to remember how blessed I truly am! So I dedicate my first shout out to my precious kiddos. How much they teach me and how much joy they bring!
I've also decided I am going to share my ideas. Whether that be church callings, new AHAS, a cool quote, or a fun tip I've learned. You can find those thoughts on sugarnspiceadays.blogspot.com

My New Love

Yes, I have a new love...Activity Days! I love this new calling and working with these sweet girls. I have already learned so much. We went to the Salt Lake Temple this week and had a tour of the new temple exhibit. We also had lunch on the patio by the reflection pond. It was a beautiful day!

Life Is Good!

When I stop to see the world through my kids eyes. I see just how much joy the world can bring. We take life WAY TOO seriously...and it robs us of so much happiness!

Sooo I get to just be SILLY sometimes...

How magical a fresh foot of snow is to them! It's an instant playground...waiting for adventure. When I stop thinking about the things I HAVE to do and think about the things I GET to do...Life brings so many more smiles.
Trying new things is invigorating. Get out of your rut and try something fresh and new! Even if its a differant flavor of ice cream!

Savoring the little things...

This weekend I felt the blessings from following some sweet advice given to me from my Mom.
About 4 years ago I was going through a particularly dark time (as we all do). My Mom gave me a fabric covered composition book that she dubbed my "thankful journel". It was to be used to record any happy thing; big or small that happened throughout the day. I've since renamed it my "rainy day journel". At first the things recorded were as small as "a smile from my two year old", or
"a warm, soft bed". But as I've continued with it, I've trained myself to find the "little" things that are actually what make up the best part of life. As I read my past reflections and thoughts-memories flood my mind. I am filled with love and gratitude for my family and sweet lessons learned. Quirky comments that would've been forgotten, small victories won by my daughters, and "bumps in the road" that in hindsight I can laugh at.
Thank You, Mom for the inspiration you had. It has made savoring the little things a habit that I hope I never loose; and has filled my days with beams of light that brighten my life!

Raising kids is part joy and part guerilla warfare

So, I am willing to put myself out there to make you smile. I was cleaning downstairs when I heard a commotion upstairs coming from the master bathroom. This can't be good, I muttered-holding my breath. This is what I found behind the door. You know your kids are growing up when they start actually looking good when they "dress up". *SIGH*
